Historic Hall

The primary collection of historic artifacts and records is housed in Historic Hall located in Independence’s Public Square. The building was constructed in 1895 as a schoolhouse, and later became the library and municipal building. Today, the Historical Society has segmented its collection into various rooms and locations of the facility. We’re restructuring our collections and exhibits. Please check back for more news on our exciting new offerings in 2024.

Bramley House

On the National Register of Historic Places

Erected in 1856 by one of the earliest pioneer settlers in Independence, Jasper Fuller, the house is a good example of a sandstone, Greek revival style structure. It’s also one of only a few Nineteenth-Century houses in the county of any style to be constructed of this type of stone, which was extensively quarried in Independence beginning in the late 1840s.
